CMCT’s agricultural units support around 12 local farmers in the district of Chennai. The farmers are encouraged to grow vegetables such as brinjal, snake gourd, bitter and long gourd, cabbage, chilli, cauliflower, radish, greens, beans, beetroot and coconuts as well as fruits like mango, lemon and bananas. The produce from the land is used to meet the needs of the meals given to children at the Bethany School and hostel, the soup kitchen in different parts of the city and to provide lunch for staff.

Apart from providing a stable income for the 12 families, the agricultural unit also helps CMCT lower its expenditure. CMCT’s long-term vision is to scale up the unit so as to develop a model farm for youngsters, empowering them with the skills they need to practice integrated farming.
