Will you extend a helping hand to people battling the pandemic?

A Helping Hand’ is a short-term project initiated by the Christian Missions Charitable Trust to respond to the second wave of Covid-19. India is adding over 3,50,000 cases on a daily basis. As highlighted by several media, no beds are available. Patients are being kept in ambulances or private

“We knew there was a surge in Covid cases in the country, but it came like a Tsunami which was unexpected, and our medical infrastructure has been insufficient to provide the necessary care for all the people. We are exhausted and many days are on duty 24 hours.”

cars with limited oxygen facilities. Tragically, loved ones are dying before the eyes of family members at hospital entrances, gasping for breath. The need of the hour is to support our country’s medical infrastructure which is collapsing under the sheer numbers.

We want to respond to this painful crisis in practical ways.

  1. Reaching out to the poor and daily wage workers with essentials to prevent them from being pushed into deeper poverty as they cannot find adequate work during this time. Moreover, we want to provide them with the essentials required to remain safe at home.
  2. Supporting the middle classes who are facing a severe cash crunch as government hospitals are full and they are unable to afford private hospitals. We also want to prevent them from borrowing and pawning their belongings to as this will only push them into a relentless cycle of debt.

Our Immediate Plan of Action

Protecting our beneficiaries and their communities
CMCT currently reaches out to more than 3000 families. We will be targeting these families as well as their immediate communities. Thus, we aim to help over 5000 families in different parts of the city with a crisis kit which will include the following provisions:

  • 5kg rice
  • 1kg of flour
  • One bottle of sanitizer
  • 1 litre Sunflower Oil
  • Tea powder
  • One bottle of hand wash
  • 1 Kg of sugar
  • A set of cloth masks
  • Multivitamin tablets
Providing ration bags in remote villages and slums where no help is being provided
We are also seeking to distribute the crisis kit and other rations to vulnerable communities in other districts of Tamil Nadu through a network of local organizations/churches.
Providing financial help to purchase medicines/medical treatment
As our field workers and staff are getting affected, we will be supporting them by directly settling their medical bills at the hospital and pharmacy.
